A study in material, form, stillness, and belonging.
House of Tin is a design and production studio based in Indonesia, crafting custom furniture and built-in joinery for residential and refined commercial spaces. Whether built to your design or developed with our team, each piece is shaped by skilled hands in our Bali and Java workshops. Grounded in craftsmanship, material integrity and quiet, enduring design.
Vol. 1 | Taru Objects marks House of Tin’s first collection, designed by its founders. This sculptural series is rooted in the quiet strength of wood and the beauty of restraint. “Taru,” meaning tree in Sanskrit, honours the natural world in its presence, patience and enduring permanence.
The collection is shaped by the landscapes that define the studio, from the stillness of Bali where ideas begin to the hands of artisans in Central Java who bring each piece into being. It is an offering that speaks to origin, intention and the time required to create with meaning. Grounded in Indonesian spirit, craft and material, Taru Objects reflects a design language that is soulful, sculptural and inherently slow.
About House of Tin
House of Tin is a founded by Natalie Palmer-Tin and Xav Tin, a husband and wife team.
Their passion is rooted in art, design and material clarity and the studio reflects their shared commitment to thoughtful process, quiet form and enduring quality.
Natalie holds a Bachelor of Design and spent over a decade shaping experiences for leading names in Bali’s luxury property space. Her background in high-end event design informs a spatial sensibility grounded in flow, proportion and craft. With half-Indonesian heritage and deep local ties, her approach blends intuition with precision and care.
Xav is a visual artist whose work is anchored in painting. His practice explores texture, colour and layered composition, bringing a sculptural lens to the studio’s visual language. He has also taught illustration at university level, adding depth and discipline to his creative process.
At the heart of House of Tin is collaboration. Collaboration between founders, clients and a network of master craftsmen across their workshops in Bali and Central Java. These long-standing relationships are essential to how ideas are brought to life through skill, patience and material understanding.
The studio partners with clients who share its values. Each project begins with clarity and intention and is carried through with focus, integrity and respect for process.

A Legacy of Craft in Jepara
Located in Central Java, Jepara is widely regarded for its deep-rooted tradition of woodworking and furniture making. With a history that spans centuries, the town has long been associated with artisanal excellence and a commitment to skill passed from one generation to the next.
At the centre of Jepara’s craft is its mastery of teak, a hardwood valued for its durability, grain and natural warmth. This material has become synonymous with the region, forming the foundation of countless heirloom-quality pieces.
Jepara’s artisans are known for their intricate carving, precise detailing and refined techniques. These practices have evolved over time but remain grounded in heritage, reflecting both cultural pride and exceptional craftsmanship.
During the Dutch colonial period, Jepara’s furniture gained international recognition. European markets sought out the town’s finely made pieces, drawn to their quality and character. This moment marked the beginning of Jepara’s global reputation as a centre for handmade furniture.
Today, Jepara continues to play a vital role in Indonesia’s furniture industry. While tools and methods have changed, the essence of the craft remains intact. Artisans continue to blend tradition with contemporary design, producing work that respects the past while meeting the needs of the present.
Jepara stands not only as a place of production but as a cultural touchstone. It is a community where history, craft and material come together to shape objects of lasting value.
